SPOKEN ENCYCLOPEDIA

Janco-Dada Museum, Ein Hod, Israel 2013

The performance Spoken Encyclopedia was carried out during the exhibition 5 Approaches to the Encyclopdea HEbraica, against the artist’s wall, Particles of Knowledge.

For the live performance Spoken Encyclopedia, two performers stand with their backs to the large wall installation, Particles of Knowledge, and read out random passages from the ‘Encyclopedia Hebraica’ to each other, and to the audience. Members of the audience join in and recite their own passages, creating a cacophonous chorus of voices.
Meanwhile the artist sits at a table facing the speakers, with fragments cut out of the encyclopedias and creates small collage works on index cards, which she hands out to the readers and audience: Others join in and make their own collages.
