FROTTAGE IN THE OFFICES OF THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE

From the original gardens and buildings of the Russian nobility, to the temporary shacks of the British mandate, now housing the local branch of the Society for the Preservation of Nature, Sergei Gardens presents an unlikely accumulation of physical traces. Using frottage I randomly sample these different layers. I then exhibit them, in the fusty now defunct agriculture offices, housed in the old buildings, alongside the maps and charts left in the space. A frottage of the flat surface of a large eucalyptus stump in the yard takes the form of a map of its own, of some unknown continent, one with its own obscure color-coded designations.
