DRAWING IN AN EMPTY SPACE

During a month long period of work, I carry on a dialogue with the gallery’s space and its past. On the walls of the white gallery space, using natural charcoal, I draw and erase continually; this rubbing action exposes the traces and remnants of previous activity and exhibits in the gallery over the years, which are revealed and coexist with my own layers of markings. As I cover and rub, cracks and nail holes, peeling layers of paint, and invisible spider webs all emerge.
After the show, I continue to transform the walls, to become the ground for a group exhibition in the gallery titled Protected Spaces.
