THE CONSOLATION OF PHILOSOPHY

2009

A series of works using books of classical western philosophy.
[see Live Action > Consolation of Philosophy and Video > Dissolve]

Here graphite and erasures cover a whole book on Hegelian thought, laid out in a grid on the wall.

The drawn layer of flux and chaos-markings, hesitations, dynamic energy overlays a dry systematic linear layer, sometimes exposing sometimes obliterating the text underneath.

Revisiting these texts after 30 years, I question the relationship of the 2 systems of acquiring knowledge of the world – one through reading of texts, the other through living in the world.
